Maui and the fish

Characters: Maui and the four brothers.
Maui unlike his other brothers had very special talents. Maui didn’t know that. One morning Maui’s brothers were going out for a fish without him knowing. But sly Maui snuck into there waka and made sure that they didn’t see them.

The waka looked like a boat that had lots of maori details on it. When they got to the right spot for THEM they started to fish but Maui didn’t like that place so he sprung out of the spot that he was hiding in and his brothers were furious! Then one of the brothers said, “MAUI why are you here. We thought that you were asleep,” Maui replied “I was not asleep I was spying on you to see what you were up to,” The same brother said “You should not be here. We didn’t even invite you,” “I know that’s why I came. Just one question, Why did you not invite me to fish with you,”

All of the brothers said “Because you are the best at everything and we just wanted us to have some alone time by ourselves,” While they were talking Maui took the orr and started paddling to his favourite fishing spot until he was satisfied with the place. By the light of Marama the moon he found the perfect spot to fish.  One by one maui’s brothers fell asleep. But Maui stayed awake and kept on paddling with all of his strength. When the sun rose all of Maui’s brothers awoke. But something strange was going on. Maui wasn’t there! Then one of the brothers said “Where is Maui?” They were all searching around for him. Before very long one of the brothers shouted “Look over there. It’s MAUI!” Maui was fast asleep on the bottom of the waka. His brothers were shrieking right in his ear but he didn’t wake up. Then they lifted him up and threw him into the sea. Guess what? He still didn’t wake up. So they took him out of the water and parked Maui where he was again. They did every thing that they could think of but he still didn’t wake up. Then the next day he woke up and wasn’t delighted about what his brothers did. He knew that the brothers tried to wake him up because he had a headache and he didn’t feel right.

Eventually Maui’s brothers and him went fishing. But Maui’s brothers refused to give him bait so Maui hammered himself so rigid that his nose bleed and he smeared his own blood over his magical jawbone hook. After he smeared his blood over his hook, He swung the hook over his head and through the hook into the sea. Before very long Maui got something on his hook. However the fish was tremendously strong. But the fish was not as strong as maui.

Maui heaved and strained with every muscle in his body. Whenever, maui kept pulling each hand over hand, The sea got more swirly and more churny.  The fish looked sort of like a Sting-Ray only just so much more monstrous and the Sting-Ray’s skin was as smooth as a delicate baby’s head .

Have you ever caught a fish so big that the water that you were fishing in nearly made your boat tip upside - down? That is what it was like with maui and his boat.

I was learning to practice to use more similes in this piece of writing. Something that has challenged me in this writing was trying to put lots of vocabulary in it. I am proud of my writing because I worked collaboratively with every body that was around me especially the teachers. I worked as hard as I could. But not rushing obviously. The learning muscle I used to get out of the learning pit was my perseverance learning muscle. I went to a workshop to learn how to do paragraphs. I used paragraphs to show where the story sort of changed.
